Rutabagas have a flavor similar to carrots but less sweet. When cooked, the sweetness intensifies, and they taste more like potatoes. During World War I, rutabagas were one of the only foods available in France and Germany. As a result, neither country is fond of them. Still, they're a popular ingredient in Norwegian and Swedish dishes.
